Sanctuary Cities Can’t Outrun The Long Arm Of President Trump
Well, if the Trump Administration is not achieving anything else, they are serious about cleaning out sanctuary cities. In the most recent round of ICE sweeps, several Democratic bastions have been raided and the results are rather gratifying.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it netted more than 100 migrants in Los Angeles and Philadelphia each, and dozens more in Baltimore, Chicago, Denver and New York, among other jurisdictions.
Among those rounded up, a woman wanted for murder, and a man wanted for sexual assault of a minor were taken into custody. Both were released by local authorities before ICE could take them into custody.
“Sanctuary jurisdictions that do not honor detainers or allow us access to jails and prisons are shielding criminal aliens from immigration enforcement and creating a magnet for illegal immigration,” said Tom Homan, acting director of ICE. “As a result, ICE is forced to dedicate more resources to conduct at-large arrests in these communities.”
The round ups specifically did not target people who are in the country as part of the DACA program, but those who are known criminals and wanted for violent crime. Like President Trump said, if these people aren’t criminals, they will be left alone. For now. (With all luck, eventually the illegal community will diminish.)
What is maddening for the American people, though, is that we are paying for the investigation and round up of these criminals twice. Once by the municipal governments and once by the federal government because local officials are virtue signalling on immigration even at the risk of putting their own constituents in danger.
Crap like this is why Americans voted for a change in government in 2016. We the people do no want illegal alien criminals in our hometowns. We have enough of our own criminals without having to import them.
